They say to "let sleeping dogs lie. I say "let them lie until you get the shot!" And that's exactly what I did for this photo. I lay down on the floor and waited. Piko finally crawled up on my back to bask in the sun. I slowly stretched out my arm and snapped this shot. I think we both fell asleep after all that waiting, but who cares? At least I got the shot! Seriously though, who doesn't love photos of adorable sleeping dogs? Totally worth it.
I've had a major obsession with animals (dogs especially) since the day I can remember. I grew up with (not be confused with was raised by) newts, rabbits, dogs, and horses. When I was little, I wanted to be a zoologist (along with the rest of my second grade class). In fact, I remember my brother coming home one day with an injured baby bird. He safely transported it from the schoolyard in a bag of potato chips - consequently, we named him "Ruffles".
As I got older, my love for animals remained, but my career aspirations shifted to a more creative field. I entered college as a photography major, but left with a degree in graphic design. After putting down the camera for a few years to pursue a graphic design career, I decided it was time to get back into the photo world. I also still had this slight canine obsession. So, I picked up a camera, pointed it in the direction of my dogs, and started shooting (photographs, not bullets! dont want to get any calls from the ASPCA).
I quickly became obsessed with capturing great images of the animals around me - images that speak to each pet's personality without becoming a cheesy portrait. Images that are artistic, sophisticated, and just plain cool-looking.
At the heart of it all, I'm still that sucker for homeless animals and dedicate much of my time to "pro-bone-o" photo shoots for local animal rescue organizations. Every once in a while certain dogs stop me in my tracks - they hit me like "Ruffles" did - and I feel compelled to do more than just photograph them. The "adoption" section of this website is dedicated to those animals. Please take a moment to learn more about these amazing animals in need of loving forever homes and spread the word to everyone you know. Sure, I'm dedicated to creating uniquely soulful images of your pet, but more than that, to contributing to the welfare of animals everywhere.
